West Bend State Champs Recognized

Three state champions from West Bend West High School were recently recognized during a West Bend Common Council meeting.

"We have a special honor tonight," said a smiling West Bend Mayor Joel Ongert, during the March 18 West Bend Common Council meeting. "We have some state champions in the room."

West Bend West High School Athletic Director Erin Felber introduced Spartans' Head Varsity Wrestling Coach Aaron Spaeth. The proud coach introduced the three talented wrestlers.

"These guys are pretty humble, but they definitely deserve this recognition. Ethan Bast, Connor Mirasola and Cole Mirasola...these guys were our core leaders this year and all three of these athletes qualified for the state tournament. Each one of them had the exact same goal, to be a state champion."

And all three of them ended their season atop the podium in Madison.

113-pound Ethan Bast, a junior at West Bend West High School finished the season with a 54-4 record, including his first state championship.

285-pound senior Cole Mirasola won his third consecutive state title, after qualifying for the state wrestling tournament for the fourth-straight year. He ended the season with a 51-1 record. He has 172 career wins, seven losses and over 83 pins in his career.

190-pound senior Connor Mirasola is part of an elite group of four-time state champions, after winning is fourth-straight state championship. He is one of only 28 other high school wrestlers to accomplish this feat. Connor Mriasola has never lost to a Wisconsin opponent, and ends his high school wrestling career with 174 wins and four losses.

Cole and Connor Mirasola are both attending Penn State University to continue their academic and wrestling careers.
