Fluffy pancakes and barn tours are just a few highlights with every Washington County Breakfast on the Farm.
The Washington County Dairy Promotion Committee promotes the dairy industry through events, educational programs in schools and public relations support about local farmers. They also offer scholarships for high school graduates pursuing agriculture. But the annual Breakfast on the Farm is their signature event, according to Treasurer Mike Strupp.
"It's our big fundraiser and it continues to grow every year. These families open up their farm to the public, it's really something. You can see and learn about what goes into operating a dairy farm."
Strupp told WTKM that next year's Breakfast on the Farm will be held at Iron Ridge Dairy, at 5385 Sunset Drive in Kewaskum. Justin and Shaun Volm and family work 3,000 acres and milk 650 cows. It's their first time hosting this grand event.
Plans will continue to evolve.
The "Breakfast" was a bit different this year. All you could eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage and applesauce were served at the Washington County Fair Park during the Classic Green Reunion. Visitors enjoyed a delicious breakfast while checking out all of the John Deere tractors, implements, engines, toys and memorabilia on display. Maple Woods Dairy Farm in West Bend was the host family and held all of the other events that make Breakfast on the Farm such a unique annual event.
