Watertown is a "Bird City"

The City of Watertown announced that it has been officially recognized as a "Bird City" by the Bird City Wisconsin program, administered by the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory.

It highlights Watertown’s commitment to bird conservation, habitat enhancement, and environmental education. Bird City communities across Wisconsin are leading efforts to create healthier environments for both birds and residents through proactive measures in habitat creation, threat reduction, public education, and sustainability.

“Receiving Bird City Wisconsin status is a tremendous honor that reflects the hard work of our city staff, residents, and community partners who continue to prioritize green spaces and wildlife-friendly practices,” said Andrea Draeger, Enrichment Programmer for City of Watertown Parks, Recreation, and Forestry in a news release. “Birds are indicators of environmental health, and by supporting them, we’re improving quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and visits Watertown.”

To earn "Bird City" recognition, communities must create and maintain bird-friendly green spaces, teach residents about birds and create long-term environmental stewardship.
