Extreme Heat Warning expected to expire

The intense heat is sticking around. High temperatures of 91 degrees are expected to remain through Friday, July 3. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Wednesday, July 1.

Wednesday's high of 93 degrees comes with a heat index value of 102.

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected for Thursday, July 2 with a high temperature of 91 degrees.

Avoiding overheating is important with hot and humid temperatures and can affect your health in a negative way.

Allenton Fire Chief and President of the Wisconsin Fire Chiefs Association John Breuer told WTKM about the risk for firefighters.

"Some of the problems we have with our firefighters overheating relates to our turnout gear we wear during a fire, which is designed to protect us from heat and moisture and those types of things. It won't let moisture in. When we are overexerting ourselves inside of a fire, dragging a hoseline or bringing a person out, we are perspiring and it doesn't allow it to evaporate."

Chief Breuer says it's all about regulating your body temperature and protecting yourself from the ultraviolet rays.

A high temperature of 90 degrees is expected for Friday, July 3 with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

A high of 84 degrees is possible for Saturday, July 4 with afternoon showers.
