A special event took place at the Washington County Fair on Tuesday, July 21 at the Washington County Farm Bureau Food Stand. A ribbon cutting ceremony recognized strong community support for their expansion project, which is complete.

Washington County Farm Bureau member and Committee Chair Tyler Hetebrueg told WTKM that the original building opened in 2004 and it was time for an update.  

"It was time for an improvement. We were trying to think of new ways to use the money that we have been raising and also, how do we give it back to the community. Our plan became to put an addition on and eliminate the tent that we have been cooking french fries out of. It became a reality. The board gave us the go ahead and if we could raise fifty percent of the funds to do this, we could move forward with it. We had a lot of support from the community."

Hetebrueg said the amount of donations exceeded their expectations, and they raised nearly enough to cover 100 percent of the cost of the expansion project.    

A big part of the project moved the cooking area into the addition, which will eliminate the heat and open it up which will create an efficient flow.

The food stand continues to get busier every summer during the Washington County Fair.

They were also able to add some more seating and standing room.

The food stand at the Washington County Fair is the primary source of fundraising for the Washington County Farm Bureau.
