More maple syrup in Wisconsin

The maple syrup industry is rapidly growing in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producers Association Executive Director Theresa Baroun says the number of producers around the state continues to escalate.

"Our industry has grown tremendously. More and more families have started their own little tradition of taking the sap and making it into syrup with only a few trees in the yard."

Baroun says there is currently over 7,000 maple syrup producers around the state of Wisconsin, with large and small operations.

Wisconsin remains a top-five national maple syrup producer, coming off a strong yield of 556,000 gallons.

Recent years have brought warmer weather and lighter snowfall, creating difficult conditions for sap collection.
