Hartford Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a gas line that was struck in front of a house, located on Branch Street near Grand Avenue in Hartford on Wednesday, August 5 at 7:45 a.m.

The road access to the area was shut down by the Hartford Police. The construction area was cleared.

A mini-excavator was on the sidewalk with pressurized natural gas blowing out of the gas line in the ground. Hartford fire engine staged to the north near East Loos Street and another truck, ambulance and command car staged to the south near East Washington Avenue. Evacuation of nearby houses was carried out by Hartford Fire and Rescue crews.

Homes and buildings on Branch Street and the area of East Loos Street to East Washington Avenue were evacuated. Several homes on Grand Avenue and East Rogers Street were evacuated.

The gas was shut off, and homes in the area were checked with combustible gas meters for the presence of natural gas. An all-clear was issued.

The gas line was repaired.

No injuries were reported.
