The Slinger Fire Department and Lifestar Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the Slinger Wastewater Treatment Plant, on Hartford Road in the Village of Slinger, for a reported structure fire in the roof.
A truck company from Hartford Fire and Rescue responded to the scene Tuesday evening, August 18 at 8:31 p.m.
A working fire was visible through a roof hatch. An exterior fire attack was initiated, which transitioned to an interior attack through a scuttle-hole access. After the fire was extinguished, investigation and overhaul operations were performed.
No injuries were reported and no employees were on site at the time of the fire. Estimated damage amount is $250,000.
A preliminary fire investigation indicates that the fire originated in the interior attic space and was caused by a recent lightning strike. The fire was largely contained to the attic.
Crews remained on scene for two hours.
Hartford Fire and Rescue assisted, along with the Hartford Police Department, Slinger Police Department, Hartford Electric, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.
