The legendary Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday, August 25. She was 80-years-old.

Her amazing talent was widespread as a singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman and philanthropist. Her legacy has had an impact in Washington County, through the Imagination Library.

United Way of Washington County CEO Kristin Brandner told WTKM about this great program.

"It's about getting free books into the hands of all of our kids in Washington County. It's a book-giving program to inspire the love of reading at a young age. It's for kids in the community ages birth to five years of age."                          

Dolly Parton was inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, and launched the Imagination Library in 1995, initially in Tennessee. It has become a popular book-gifting program across the country. It mails free books to registered children every month.
