Patroit Day is recognized on September 11 in memory of the victims killed during terrorists attacks on that date, in 2001. The Avenue of Flags at Sawyer Park, in the City of Hartford are raised in recognition of this day.

A coordinated series of terrorists attacks were carried out by the Islamic terrorist organization al-Qaeda against the United States on September 11, 2001.

A total of 19 terrorists hijacked four airliners, flying one into each of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center, in New York City. The third plane crashed into the Pentagon, which is the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, in Virginia. The fourth plane crashed into a rural field in Pennsylvania after a variety of passengers turned on the terrorists.

Scott Henke was the City of Hartford's mayor in 2001 and shared his memories of September 11 with WTKM.

"The federal government was adamant that we closed our airport. It was one of those things, something had changed that day when I walked down Main Street to go to city hall. People were different that day. It was a day to reassure everyone that we are going to be okay."

The Hartford Fire and Rescue Department are planning on honoring the lives lost and the heroes who answered the call on September 11. A ceremony is planned on Friday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Bernd Park in the City of Hartford.

The Juneau Fire and Rescue Department will host its 9-11 Silent Parade on Friday, September 11 at 8 p.m. in the City of Juneau. Street lights along the parade route will be turned off at 8 p.m. The parade will step off on South Western Avenue, travel north and turn right onto West Oak Grove Street up to Main Street.
