The Jackson Police Department investigated an accident which involved a vehicle and pedestrian. It occurred on Jackson Drive, in front of Jackson Elementary School on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:37 a.m.
The investigation determined that a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Kewaskum woman was traveling northbound, when a 9-year-old pedestrian entered the roadway on the crosswalk and was struck by the vehicle. The child was transported by a parent to a local emergency department for evaluation and was later released.
Officers reviewed available video footage of the incident. The investigation did not reveal evidence that speed, reckless driving, or distracted driving were contributing factors in the crash. The driver's view of the pedestrian was partially obstructed by another vehicle immediately prior to the crash.
The driver initially stopped following the crash, but then left the area without reporting the incident to law enforcement. Officers were able to identify and locate her, and she was cooperative with the investigation. The driver was issued citations for failure to report an accident and operating without insurance.
The Jackson Police Department is thankful that the child involved in this incident was evaluated and released without serious injury.
