Students in Ms. Danay’s Business Strategies class at Hartford Union High School started a Buckle Up Phone Down campaign to tackle distracted driving across the high school and the Hartford community.
Hartford Union High School senior Shea Miller told WTKM that Buckle Up Phone Down was brought to their attention by an area resident who was affected by distracted driving.
"Our class is supporting it and talking with the community about it. We are making it known to the community."
A damaged F-150 truck is also a part of the campaign, according to Miller.
"Bob's Auto delivered a crashed truck in front of our school and that definitely caught the attention of a lot of students. I hear a lot of people talking about it."
Students went around to area businesses in Hartford in order to hang flyers which promote the Buckle Up - Phone Down campaign. It turned into businesses sponsoring the campaign, providing items that are given away to students who take the pledge to stop distracted driving.
