Car ends up airborne and hits box truck

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a vehicle overturned on its roof and a box truck in the median of U.S. Highway 45 north of the Park Avenue overpass Saturday morning, October 24 at 7:20 a.m.

The first deputy arrived and located a man lying next to the overturned vehicle. The man was bleeding from the head and was being assisted by a resident. The driver of the box truck reported head, neck, and lower-back pain.

Additional deputies responded and closed all northbound lanes.

A 45-year-old West Bend man was traveling westbound on Park Avenue when his vehicle left the roadway to the right, traveled through a fence at the top of the overpass, and became airborne down the embankment. The vehicle then struck a box truck that was merging northbound onto Highway 45.

The 45-year-old driver was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The box truck driver, a 59-year-old Theresa man, was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Milwaukee with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
