Hartford Union High School baseball team heading to state

The Hartford Union High School baseball team keeps winning. The Orioles earned a share of the North Shore Conference title with Slinger and Whitefish Bay. A 2-1 win over Fond du Lac in the regional final put them in the sectional, where they defeated Manitowoc Lincoln in the semifinal, 2-1. The Orioles' talented baseball team capitalized on errors committed by Beaver Dam and scored two runs in their shutout victory, securing a sectional title. Hartford's Jack Perkowski pitched a complete game against the Golden Beavers, going seven innings and only giving up one hit.

The Orioles were 9-3 in the month of May, and are 21-7 on the season.

Their next stop is familiar, the state tournament at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute from June 16 to 19. Hartford Union High School's baseball team came up short in the state quarterfinals in 2023.

Hartford's head coach Steve Oleshko told WTKM Sports about some keys for them to bring home a state championship.

"We need to continue to play good defense and limit the amount of mental mistakes. When you talk about playing for a championship, they are all tight games. You can't give up free outs. We need to make those routine plays consistently."

Coach Oleshko says senior Carter Kutz will be the starting pitcher for their quarterfinal game against Hortonville on Monday, June 16 at 2:30 p.m. Senior Ethan Birkel will be the catcher.

"We like that for the first game," said Oleshko. "Ethan has done a great job of handling Carter all season long."

The winner will advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, June 18 with the championship game slated for Thursday, June 19.
