New pickleball courts in Hartford

The popularity of pickleball continues to grow, as new pickleball courts at Westside Park in the City of Hartford are complete and ready for use.

Crews finished painting the six new pickleball courts and installed the nets this summer.

Hartford Parks and Rec Director Randy Wojtasiak discussed the project with WTKM Sports.

"Our pickleball courts look good, it's the courts and netting systems for this summer. I did include as an alternate bid, the additional courts right away. With the donation support that the department has received, we were able to get all six courts in. It's also financially beneficial, rather than bringing someone back to do the work again. It's just courts and nets, no seating area and no fencing. That would still remain as part of a second phase."

The fencing for the new pickleball courts in the City of Hartford will be installed in the near future, which will complete this portion of the project.

Pickleball was named the fastest-growing sport in the United States for the fourth consecutive year, according to a joint report with the Sports and Fitness Industry Association. There were over 19 million pickleball players in 2024 in the United States, which was a 45 percent increase from 2023.
