The Hartford Union High School football team continues to improve, as the Orioles prepare for a Week 8 matchup at Cedarburg Friday night, October 10.
Hartford (2-5, 2-3 NSC) is coming off a hard-fought win over Nicolet on Friday, October 3, 30-27. John Redders, Hartford Union High School's head coach, liked his team's effort.
"A win is a win, we will take it any day and we are proud of our kids with the way they battled through the four quarters last week."
Hartford's senior running back Sully McManigal rushed for 157 yards on 19 carries against the Knights.
Coach Redders says the offensive line is playing well.
"I think those guys definitely deserve a lot of credit. Sam Johnston by far right now stood out as the most consistent. He has been pretty much in the eighty percent to ninety percent area, week after week, of getting his job done. We rate our guys on a percent and if they are seventy-five percent or better, they have won or have done the job. Jaxon Rolsma as well, another guy who has been reliable on the line for us."
It's the first year for Matt McDonnell as head coach of Cedarburg (2-5, 2-3 NSC). So far, he likes the work ethic of the players.
"The most fun is how receptive the kids are to all of the coaching. There are things to improve on, but the core nucleus is there. We have a really good group of senior leaders. It's been great, we are working hard."
The Bulldogs have won two in a row against the Orioles. The last time Hartford beat Cedarburg was in 2022, behind 322 total rushing yards. Noah Deibert rushed for 110 yards on 15 carries, and one touchdown while Quinten Hornada finished with 94 yards rushing on 11 carries and two touchdowns for the Orioles in that game three years ago.
