Top ranked high school wrestling was the story again this year in the Cheesehead Invitational at Kaukauna High School. It was held on Friday, January 9 through Saturday, January 10. 46 teams were there, including nationally ranked talent.
Schools from around the country participated, including Florida, Illinois, Missouri and Minnesota. This year, 12 teams from Wisconsin were on the mat including Kaukauna, Hartford Union High School, Arrowhead, Oconomowoc, West Bend West, East Troy, Fennimore, Mineral Point, Mount Horeb, Pulaski, Stoughton and Wrightstown.
All wrestlers had multiple matches and wrestled both days.
The last time a Wisconsin school won the Cheesehead Team Championship was in 2008, with Wausau West High School. Hickman High School, of Missouri earned this year's title. Southeast Polk, of Iowa finished second while Illinois' Montini Catholic High School was in third place. Kaukauna earned 10th, Oconomowoc in 17th, Arrowhead in 26th, Hartford Union High School in 36th and 42nd place for West Bend.
