For the first time since 1982, the Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series.
Garrett Mitchell hammered a go-ahead sixth-inning solo homer off Dodgers left-hander Tanner Scott, as Milwaukee capped a rally from a four-run deficit against Los Angeles on Thursday, October 15. The Brewers beat the Dodgers 6-4 to complete a National League Championship Series sweep of the two-time defending champions.
Milwaukee's next stop is one it hasn't made since the heyday of Robin Yount, Paul Molitor and Cecil Cooper: the Fall Classic against either the Cleveland Guardians or Tampa Bay Rays.
"I couldn't be happier for our group," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. "You guys talk to me all the time and hear my nonsense, but the truth is these guys are a special group. They're together. They care about each other."
It was just under a year ago that the roles were reversed as the Dodgers swept the Brewers en route to a championship. This marks the first time in MLB postseason history that a team has swept an opponent that swept it in the preceding season.
