The "Woodstock of Hunting" is coming to Wisconsin

An exciting new outdoor tradition is making its regional debut in Beaver Dam.

The Dodge County Fairgrounds will play host to Huntstock Midwest July 17 to July 19 —a high-energy, three-day immersion into the hunting lifestyle. Often described as the "Woodstock of hunting," the festival is making its very first appearance in the Midwest, making the Dodge County Fairgrounds the epicenter of the region's outdoor community.

Whether you are looking to fine-tune your whitetail strategy, test out the latest archery gear, plan a fun family outing, or just talk shop with fellow hunters over great food and live music, this weekend is built for you.

Hunting is all about passing the torch to the next generation. To make it easier to bring the whole crew, kids under 12 get in completely free. The festival will feature a pellet gun range put on by Wisconsin Hunters Education, outdoor lawn games, a make-a-smore station and other activities designed to keep young hunters engaged and excited.

Giannis says goodbye through video message

Giannis Antetokounmpo bid farewell to Milwaukee.

Antetokounmpo’s time with the Bucks officially ended Monday, July 6 when the trade sending him and Bobby Portis to the Heat for Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakucionis and draft capital was approved by the NBA.

Antetokounmpo plans to arrive in Miami in a few days to start his Heat era – and said in a video message posted Monday, July 6 on social media that he will forever think of Milwaukee, the place where he spent 13 seasons, as his city.

“I want you to hear from my mouth, the city of Milwaukee will always be in my heart,” Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and 10-time All-Star, said in the video. “This is my home, and this is a place that I had my kids. … It made me the man that I am today. That will never ever change. No matter where I am, Milwaukee will always be my city, my team, my family.”

His run in Milwaukee ended with 21,531 points – by far the most in franchise history, more than 7,000 ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s total during his tenure with the Bucks. Antetokounmpo is also Milwaukee’s all-time leader in rebounds and assists, plus he ranks second on the team’s career list in steals.

High school basketball shot clock will be permitted

The WIAA Board of Control approved limited use of the shot clock in basketball in 2026-27 and acted on other recommendations from the Winter Coaches Advisory Committees affecting season regulations and membership policies.

Starting next season, schools will be permitted to use a 35-second shot clock for nonconference varsity boys and girls basketball games if there is mutual agreement between the teams, as permitted by rule adaptations.

The Board approved basketball tournament procedures in the Season Regulations to adjust the enrollment cutlines for divisional placement in the five divisions, beginning with the 2027-28 season. In addition, the higher-seeded team will wear white jerseys and be designated the home team in all State Tournament games beginning next season.

Other changes to the tournament procedures eliminated two regulations. The first removes language limiting a player to only two halves when a one-half junior varsity game is followed by a two-half varsity game. The second removes a provision that prevents teams participating in the State Tournament from moving down to a smaller-school division the following year, even if their enrollment would have placed them in the smaller-school division.

The Board approved four recommendations impacting the wrestling tournament procedures in the Season Regulations. Dates for the girls regionals and sectionals will be moved ahead one week to Feb. 5 and Feb. 12, respectively, in 2027.

The details for the Girls Wrestling Team Tournament, beginning in 2026-27, were adopted. 64 teams will compete in the tournament series with the top-two scoring teams from the individual regional tournament advancing to the sectional team tournament. The teams will be seeded at sectionals by applying the team tournament seeding formula to their individual regional lineup. Teams advance from the team sectional to the State Team Tournament to coincide with the boys team tournament Friday and Saturday, March 5-6 at the La Crosse Center.

In addition, the sectional pairings of the WIAA Girls Wrestling Individual Tournament will be determined by using an annual regional rotation that will pair regional champions versus regional runners-up in all weight classes, which prevents student-athletes from the same two regionals from meeting in every sectional semifinal.
