Hartford football games will remain at Gib Mahr Field

Improvement projects continue to take shape at Hartford Union High School.

The school's pool is drained this winter season in order to address its condition. The stainless steel gutters are in, with the concrete and grouting work wrapped up. The scoreboard and banners are installed, along with the completed wall tile.

Other improvement projects are scheduled and will have a positive impact on the Hartford Union High School athletic department, according to Athletic and Activities Director and Dean of Students Scott Helms.

"We will be playing football right here at Gib Mahr. There are no plans to move football behind the school. We would need bleacher systems and a press box before we can do that. Work on the track and inside turf will begin in April. We will not have any home track meets this upcoming season. We will be creative with some of our track practices."

The facilities continue to improve at Hartford Union High School.

Good showing for Slinger's Outdoors Club

The Slinger High School Outdoors Club is made up of students focused on fishing and hunting. They host tournaments, including open-water events and have been recognized as a top fishing team.

Their first tournament of 2026 included a lot of wind, cold temperatures and snow. They competed in the WIFA 300 Inch Challenge, which included two divisions with 104 high schools. Slinger earned a sixth place finish.

It's a Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association event where high school teams aim to catch a "mixed bag" of fish including perch and bluegill, along with gamefish like northern pike and walleye totaling over 300 inches in length.

Representative Gundrum Honors Coach Bill Jacklin as Hometown Hero

58th Assembly District State Representative Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger) recognized Slinger High School Head Football Coach Bill Jacklin as a Hometown Hero on Thursday, January 15.

Coach Jacklin is a lifelong member of the Slinger community and a proud Slinger High School graduate who returned home to serve as a teacher and head varsity football coach. "Coach Jacklin represents the very best of our community," Gundrum said in a news release. He is a dedicated educator, a respected leader, and someone who has spent his life investing in young people in Slinger and the surrounding area.
